70 – So Alive

The people we have loved
Leave marks on our hearts,
Even when we have no choice
But to let it wither.
It never goes anywhere else
It just continuously gets smaller
Like healing a grisly wound.
The scar is always there though.
And our hearts forget pain
They leave that to the brain,
So when our bodies remember
They smile like it’s right there.
When it feels like we can’t survive
Love has a uniquely universal way
Of reminding us we’re alive.
