The Funeral Poem

The thing about death is
That it is so many things
Some at the wrong time
Most when we aren’t ready

An adventure comes to an end
Another waiting to begin
Uniting some and parting others
Until we are together again

I thought I’d see you once more
Before the time passed us by
An end without an ending
No more pages left to write

A sorrowful sigh and farewell
A new star watched by the moon
Your life will not be forgotten
By Heaven needing you so soon

So many looks un-exchanged
Many things left still to say
Nothing loved is lost, so I’ll wait
Until we are together again

In loving memory of Al Williamson. – “Since his passing we have seen the most amazing sunsets, so we know; Heaven has a new lighting designer.”
