The Crying Game

Foreword: I participated in a writing exercise on the theme of ‘what brings tears to your eyes?’ Someone else wrote about onions.

The Crying Game

Saying goodbye to someone
In an old-style film reel movie
With the ends cut together
Repeating on a loop
That skips the ending

Smashing hearts and heads
Like I’ve just left my stomach
At the top of the ledge;
I just all too keenly
Threw myself off

Someone’s face and the goodbye
That will never arrive
The closure that will never come

Knowing we won’t laugh, or grow
Or set the world on fire
Just movie reel memories
Repeating on a loop
